Don't blame the pig! Call it the Mexican or North American flu. Those are two alternate names that may be popping up to replace the "swine flu," the virus that started in Mexico.
While many countries are sorting out how to properly deal with the outbreak of the virus, some are arguing over the name given to the illness.
Officials in some nations are taking offence to the reference "swine."
Israel doesn't like the association mainly because the dominant religions in the area, Judaism and Islam, both consider pigs a 'tainted' animal that neither will eat.
The Paris-based World Organization for Animal Health also backs up the name change because "the virus has not been isolated in animals to date."
Nor does it have anything to do with eating pork. The World Health Organization has already announced that the flu isn't transmissible by handling or eating the meat product.
The Mexican flu is a more appropriate name, says Israel's Deputy Health Minister Yakov Litzman. But that name doesn't work either. There's nothing linking the virus to make it strictly 'Mexican,' besides the fact the majority of cases first surfaced there.

CBS11 in Dallas / Forth Worth has the story about an 8-year-old girl who helped steer a car when her grandmother passed out.

Emma Hicks, 8, of Cleburne, a town south of Forth Worth, is being given a national award for doing a good deed. While she crashed her grandmothers SUV through a fence and into a shed, it was a crash that may have saved lives.

There's still damage visible at the site where Emma Hicks ride home from school ended. "On the way home my grandma, she blacked out," the little girl explained.

Emma's grandmother, Jeannie Mendoza, has to depend on her granddaughter's memory. "I turned on the corner and I told her [Emma] I felt funny and I was going to pull over," Jeannie recalled. "I pulled over a little bit and I don't remember anything after that."

Jeannie had a seizure while driving with her granddaughter. Emma said, "And her foot was on the gas pedal and then we were going." The two were racing down the road and heading toward danger.

Something had to be done, so little Emma took action. "I had to undo my seatbelt and I had to get in the front seat and I had to steer the truck. And then we came to a turn and I couldn't make it."

Until the incident, Emma's only driving experience was on her grandfather's lawnmower and tractor.

A teen allegedly broke into cars to raise money to pay a lawyer to defend him on other charges. A criminal complaint said a resident caught the teen inside his Chevrolet Camaro in his garage about 4:30 a.m. April 16 and tackled him and held him for police.

Officers found a GPS system, nine CDs and seven video games in his backpack. The criminal complaint said he took the items to help pay for a lawyer. He was charged with felony burglary, possession of burglar tools and bail jumping.

APPENZELL, Switzerland — Voters in the heart of the Swiss Alps on Sunday passed legislation banning nude hiking after dozens of mostly German nudists started rambling through their picturesque region.

By a show of hands citizens of the tiny state of Appenzell Inner Rhodes voted overwhelmingly at their traditional open-air annual assembly to impose a $176 fine on violators.

Only a scattering of people on Sunday opposed the ban on the back-to-nature activity that took off last autumn when naked hikers — primarily Germans — started showing up in eastern Switzerland.

The cantonal government recommended the ban after citizens objected to encountering walkers wearing nothing but hiking boots and socks.

"The reactions of the population have shown that such appearances over a large area are perceived as thoroughly disturbing and irritating," the government said in a statement.

New York City police were holding a suspect Saturday who they say tried to turn in a live hand grenade to police at a gun-buyback program in the Bronx.

Authorities say the NYPD's bomb squad responded to a church where guns were being collected at around 4:30 p.m. and left 15 minutes later with the grenade, carrying it out in a special carrier. The program offers $200 for guns, no questions asked.
