A father was accused of using a dog shock collar on his four children. Salem Police Lt. Dave Okada said the 41-year-old man was jailed Tuesday on charges of criminal mistreatment. He said the father acknowledged putting the electronic dog collar on his four children and shocking all of them at least once.

TWO men and a woman employed by a Canadian mining company were jailed for 20 years each for forcing a 13-year-old girl to have sex with a dog.
Magistrate Gadiel Mariki passed sentence on the trio after finding them guilty of "forcing a girl to have sex with a dog" in the northern Tanzanian city of Mwanza in March 2008.
Job Mlama, 30, Anicet Edward, 30, and Shija Madata, 18, were employed by Canadian mining exploration company, Barrick Exploration Africa Limited (BEAL) at Mwanza, some 800km north of the capital Dar es Salaam.
They were sacked from their jobs shortly after the incident.

Australia is known around the world for its large and deadly creepy-crawlies, but even locals have been shocked by the size of the giant venomous spiders that have invaded an Outback town in Queensland.

Scores of eastern tarantulas, which are known as "bird-eating spiders" and can grow larger than the palm of a man's hand, have begun crawling out from gardens and venturing into public spaces in Bowen, a coastal town about 700 miles northwest of Brisbane.

A HOMELESS South Korean unable to withdraw his life savings because he could not remember his real name has died in poverty.
The man, believed to be aged 56, died of cancer last month, leaving 128 million won ($135,000) in a bank account that was opened in early 1993 under the alias of Na Hae-Dong. The account was frozen several months later when a law took effect to ban accounts held under false names as an anti-corruption measure.

team of British engineers have designed a car that not only runs on a fuel derived from the tasty treat, but is largely constructed from parts derived from vegetables.

The steering wheel of the open-cockpit car is constructed from carrot fibers, the foam in the seats from soybeans, and the rear view mirrors and body panels produced from the starch of potatoes. Even the brakes are based on cashew nut shells...

A LIFE-size model has been created of a man who could be behind the disappearance of Sunshine Coast boy Daniel Morcombe more than five years ago.

The three-dimensional model was commissioned by Daniel's parents Denise and Bruce and is the latest tool in their fight for information about their 13-year-old son's disappearance.

THE US Supreme Court has ordered a federal appeals court to re-examine its verdict in favour of the CBS network that aired a 2004 broadcast in which pop superstar Janet Jackson bared her breast.
"The judgement is vacated and the case is remanded to the United States Court of Appeals for the third circuit for further consideration in light of FCC v. Fox Televisions stations," the high court said in a statement.
