THE internet has touched virtually every aspect of our daily lives.
Now the worldwide web has extended its reach into the afterlife as well.
In an Australian first, funeral director Tobin Brothers yesterday launched a new service offering families the option of webcasting their loved one's funeral.
The initiative allows those emotionally close to the deceased, but separated by distance, to "attend" a funeral service from anywhere in the world.
The company will even record the ceremony and offer it for playback online for up to 12 months.
A real-time messaging feature offers the option for those watching the funeral service to email a friend, post a message of condolence or light a tribute candle on the family's web page.
