ONE of Europe's most famous nudist colonies has become the subject of an unusual investigation by French detectives after the destruction of three nightclubs in fires blamed on naturist "hardliners".
The normally peaceful Cap d'Agde, a mecca for nudists in the south of France, has been plunged into anxiety. Investigators suspect "fundamentalist" naturists of harbouring a grudge against the echangistes, or swingers, who are drawn to the town by the promise of sex.

A West Virginia mother faces charges after being accused of burning the word "wimp" into her 6-year-old daughter's neck.
Tammy Smith is charged with five counts of child abuse and of malicious assault, all felonies.
Moundsville Police Chief Jim Kudlak said Saturday that the child told police that her mother used a cigarette to burn her. Smith's daughter told authorities that her mother burned her because she was angered that the girl tripped and fell.

A truck-driving thief made off with more than $3 million worth of merchandise from a venerable maker of cowboy boots and other footwear, authorities said.

The thefts occurred Labor Day weekend and Nov. 9 at a Justin Boots distribution center, said Fort Worth police Lt. Paul Henderson.

A developer is suing two Spanish-owned hotel groups for allegedly stealing nearly 100 truckloads of sand from a beachfront property in Jamaica.

Felicitas Limited has filed an $8 million lawsuit against RIU Hotels & Resorts and the Fiesta Hotel Group. Attorney Michael Hylton says forensic tests suggest sand at two Spanish-owned hotels is similar to that stolen in July. He says the theft paralyzed construction of a $105 million resort.
