HOUSTON — A Houston-area mother convicted of mutilating her infant by cutting off his genitals two years ago was sentenced Monday to 99 years in prison.
But minutes after the jury's sentence was read, Katherine Nadal, 28, yelled out that she did not hurt her son, prompting the boy's father to storm out of the courtroom.
Jurors deliberated for two hours Monday night before returning the sentence, which also included a $10,000 fine. The same jury had convicted her last week of first-degree felony injury to a child. ...

A woman is pregnant with a record-breaking 12 babies, the Sun reported Monday.
The teacher, who has not yet been named, is expecting six boys and six girls, according to reports. She conceived the babies following fertility treatments, after suffering a number of miscarriages.
Fertility experts confirmed the extraordinary pregnancy in Gafsa, Tunisia, was possible, but carried "colossal" risks.
"The woman could have been receiving ovulation induction treatment, which stimulates egg production. You don't have the same control as with IVF," said Dr. Mark Hamilton, of the British Fertility Society.

The man turned himself in yesterday after making the second drive-by attack in Settsu, a satellite city near Osaka, and was detained on suspicion of assault, a municipal police spokesman said.
The worker, identified as Tatsuya Moriguchi, committed a similar assault in the same city on August 3, the police official said.

HEADLINE: Swimmers are told to wear burkinis

CAPTION: COVER UP OR NO DIVE
Under the rules, swimmers – including non-Muslims – are barred from entering the pool in normal swimming attire. Instead they are told that they must comply with the "modest" code of dress required by Islamic custom, with women covered from the neck to the ankles and men, who swim separately, covered from the navel to the knees. The phenomenon runs counter to developments in France, where last week a woman was evicted from a public pool for wearing a burkini – the headscarf, tunic and trouser outfit which allows Muslim women to preserve their modesty in the water.

The man - a regular customer of the music shop in the southern city of Christchurch - grabbed handfuls of banknotes from the till with four surveillance cameras trained on him, the shop's manager told The Press newspaper.
Manager Garry Knight said although the shop assistant was distracted with helping another customer, two other people in the store witnessed the theft on Friday.
"It's comical.''
Just minutes before the robbery, the man had approached the assistant, saying he wanted a copy of Pink Floyd's album The Wall held for him.
He wrote his name and contact details down for the assistant.

A British man has been sentenced to three-and-a-half-years in prison after burglars found images of child pornography on his stolen laptop and turned it over to the police.
Richard Coverdale was convicted of downloading pictures of child abuse as well as exposing himself to an unsuspecting teenage girl over the internet while posing as a 14-year-old boy, according to Gazettelive.com.
Police started investigating the 24-year-old convicted arsonist after burglars discovered the images on a laptop they stole from Coverdale's house in August 2008 and contacted police, the Web site reported.
According to prosecutors, the officers found 13 illegal photos and 65 illegal videos on the computer and uncovered online conversations between Coverdale and a 14-year-old girl, during which Coverdale pretended to be a fictitious 14-year-old boy named Danny, Gazettelive.com reported.

HEADLINE: Girl Fined For Selling Lemonade Without a Permit

CAPTION: SOON, ONE WON'T BE ABLE TO SHIT WITHOUT A PERMIT
Three sourpuss Parks Department agents put the squeeze on a 10-year-old girl in Riverside Park yesterday, slapping the tyke with a $50 ticket for hawking lemonade without a permit.
Clementine Lee, who lives just blocks from the Upper West Side park, had dreamed of opening a lemonade stand since last year and took advantage of yesterday's beautiful weather to set up shop.
"It was such a hot day I figured people would want a cold drink," the aspiring juvenile juice mogul told The Post.
Business was booming for Clementine and her photographer dad, Richard, 49, for the first 20 minutes at the stand on West 73rd Street and Riverside Drive.
The father-daughter team was able to sell 10 glasses of the ice-cold drink for 50 cents each and the dozen chocolate chip cookies they baked.
But their day turned into the pits at 3 p.m. when the heartless pack of city sticklers iced their operation.
"They approached us nonchalantly but then surrounded us," the peeved papa recalled. "They were very hostile as soon as they approached, saying 'Where's your permit? Where's your permit?' "
When Richard admitted he didn't have the right to sell on Parks property, the agents immediately slapped the dad and daughter with a summons for selling food without a license, which carries a maximum fine of $200.

IT JUST might be the most uncaring neighbourhood in Australia.
Some residents of Doonan, near Noosa on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, are protesting against a small hospice for the terminally ill being set up in the semi-rural area, The Sunday Mail reports.
They say they don't want death on their doorstep, and have asked its council to block a plan to turn a four-bedroom cottage into a free hospice.
"I don't want to be sitting there saying, 'There goes another coffin, and another, and another'," said Ron Klieger, whose living room faces the driveway of the hospice.
Deborah McGovan, a palliative care nurse who lives in the street where the hospice is planned - Redwood Rd - said she supports the concept but doesn't want a hospice in her neighbourhood.

Chen fell 26 feet onto a partially inflated emergency air cushion laid out by authorities and survived, suffering spine and elbow injuries, the official Xinhua News Agency said Saturday.

The passer-by, 66-year-old Lai Jiansheng, had been fed up with what he called Chen's "selfish activity," Xinhua said. Traffic around the Haizhu bridge in the city of Guangzhou had been backed up for five hours and police had cordoned off the area.

CAPTION: DRUNK, SEX AND DRIVING
A MAN was caught having sex while driving because he and his girlfriend could not wait until they reached their destination, a court has heard.

Bradley Dean Milne, 33, was charged with not wearing his seatbelt, driving without due care and drink-driving when a witness called police after seeing his car swerving all over the road, The Northern Territory News reports.

Darwin Magistrates Court heard that the couple were planning to drive to East Arm Wharf in the Mazda ute to have sex.

Police prosecutor Leigh Cahill said Milne "became aroused" and the woman gave him oral sex while he was driving.

Milne was swerving from one side of the road to the other until the car stopped at traffic lights.
When they turned right onto Berrimah Rd, the woman straddled Milne while he kept driving, swerving into the kerbside and back into the middle lane.
