NEW YORK (CNN) -- One morning a couple of months ago at Westchester Medical Center, Dawn Verdick gave Daniel Flood one of her kidneys.
Daniel Flood received a kidney from Dawn Verdick. They were brought together through Craigslist. Verdick and Flood were not friends or family. In fact, they were total strangers from the East and West coasts. But that's not the most unusual aspect of this case.

The patient and donor were brought together after Flood's three daughters placed an ad on Craigslist, the online classifieds site that offers everything from autos to real estate and guitar lessons to massage.

"Please help us, my dad needs a kidney!" began their posting in the site's volunteer section.

The boy had written an essay about the "painful afternoon my Dad shot me with a BB gun." The elementary-school teacher turned the essay over to authorities.

Prosecutors charged the 36-year-old father on Friday with one felony count of child abuse. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 6 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The criminal complaint said the father told an investigator he shot the boy after the child didn't move fast enough from blocking the TV. He said he aimed at his son's rear pocket because he thought it would be more padded.

IF being dressed up as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz wasn't bad enough, little Dinky Oldfield brought new meaning to the idea of a sick puppy last week, requiring an emergency trip to the vet after eating a "six-fingered latex glove". The jack russell, owned by 2GB midnight-to-dawn radio recruit and former One Nation mastermind David Oldfield, was rushed to Sydney's Manly Vet Clinic on New Years Eve by his wife Lisa.

Fearing for the dogs life, the one-time TV panellist pushed through the line to saying her "little scallywag'' needed help.

But after Dr Chris Watkins immediately pumped the six-month-old pups stomach, he didn't discover a glove, but six coloured condoms.

"David was cleaning out his office and left out a box of condoms given to him by a safe sex group in Canberra or something and the dog got into them when I was in the shower,'' Lisa said.
